Weight loss is often all about the things you can’t have. Let’s put a positive look on one of the adult beverages that rules the world. Beer can be very beneficial to any weight loss plan. Here are just three of the reasons to enjoy a cold brew from time to time:

1. Controlling stress is at the bottom of the bottle

Stress is a killer to your weight loss goals and your sanity. You don’t have to go far to find hordes of studies on how bad stress is on the human body. Getting rid of that stress is key to a long and healthy life.

Ending a long hard day with a beer is a great way to kick that stress out the door. Just as the French have their glass of wine at dinner, the Germans have a cold brew after a stressful day. To many people, having a beer signals the end of their busy day and the start to their nightly stress purging.

2. Moderation is Key

Beer can be just as beneficial as red wine. A glass of red wine at dinner is touted as being beneficial for years. While beer does not come packed to the hops with antioxidants, it does come with some beneficial goodness.

Just as red wine needs to be enjoyed one glass at a time, beer needs to be consumed in moderation. Some studies are based on one beer a week. Other studies will tell you that four or five beers a week are key to the good life. The main factor is all these number are less than a six-pack a week.

Binge drinking will kill your weight loss goals in a fluid ounce. Over drinking dehydrates the body and causes a nasty case of the munchies. These factors add up to you ditching that diet plan and eating food at 3am that looks as though it came out of a jar of oil.

3. Enjoy the beer

Time to enjoy that beer. There are several ways to enjoy a beer while keeping your weight loss goals in place. These all start with the beer your drinking.

Microbrew beer may cost you more per six-pack, but it will save you money, calories, and weight loss misery in the end. Microbrews come in a world of blends and mixes. These can come from hoppy goodness to dark chocolate stouts. Point being, microbrews contain more flavor per bottle. There is a microbrew for you unique taste buds.

Microbrew beer usually contains higher alcohol content. This means you get your buzz with fewer beers. Fewer beers mean fewer calories. Fewer calories will mean less weight loss gym hassles. Microbrews are meant to be sipped and enjoyed, not chugged and forgotten. Find a good microbrew beer and enjoy it for all the hard work the brewmasters put into it.

Having a good brew from time to time is a great way to reduce stress and keep you on the weight loss path. This is not the green light to suck down a case of beer every night. Take time to enjoy that beer and let the stress of the day fall away, one sip at a time.

Weight loss does not need to mean hitting a gym after work every day. Keeping your weight loss motivation is even more important than that salad you had at lunch. Here are a few ways to keep you running towards your end goals:

Know why you want to lose the weight

Sit down one night and write out all the reasons you want to embark on this weight loss journey. There is no right or wrong reason here. The key is to put some serious thought into this list.

Write that list down and keep it somewhere you can always go back to it. You can always add more reasons. Whenever you feel like you want to just quit, grab that list and read it. The reasons you have written down will remind you why you are working so hard.

Set your goals

Time to write down some goals. These need to be realistic goals. Don’t shoot for the moon when you haven’t even developed the weight loss rocket. You want goals that are attainable along the way to keep that motivation zooming along.

Goals should come in the short, mid, and long-term ranges. Short-term goals can easily be mixed in with all the rest of your goals as well. Write these goals down and stick them with your list of reasons for weight loss. Every time you hit a goal, be happy and enjoy that milestone you just hit.

Partners are full of win

The best key for motivation is a partner. This partner can push you to your limits. They can call you on your laziness. They can even get you active when you might just stop for the day.

Find events you want to take part in

Weight loss does not have to mean regular trips to the gym. Exercising can be as simple as getting out and walking around your favorite park. Activities you enjoy will make it easier to get out and exercise.

This can be taken even further though. Maybe one of your goals should be running some sort of marathon. You may want to ride your bike in the local bicycle race. This all comes down to choosing some event that you will enjoy. Once you have the event picked out, it becomes easier to train for that event than to think of it as daily exercising.

Do a little something every day

Don’t take exercise for granted. Even the slightest bit of exercise can keep you motivated to stay the course. This can be as simple as waking up, doing ten pushups and then starting your day out.

The reason this keeps you motivated is you think of that bit of exercise you did. It stays on your mind that you walked half a block across the parking lot. This in turn helps keep you from shying away from your weight loss diet plans. The end result may not be a full workout, but the peace of mind in know you still put forth an effort for the day.

Staying motivated in your weight loss goals can be difficult at times. Set your sights on the healthy end results, find some fun things to do, and watch as it becomes more about the enjoyment. This whole process can be very fun.

Weight loss is about more than just exercise and dieting. You need to learn the best ways to eat if you want to reach your weight loss goals. Every person is different in how they eat and how much they need to eat. You need to learn what works best for your weight loss success.

Food journals are not for your private secrets

Weight loss success begins with good planning. While you are planning your attack, grab a food journal. This journal does not need to be anything fancy. A simple notebook will do. Make sure it is convenient enough to carry around with you all day.

This food journal will be your guide for what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat. Even if you hit the ice cream shop for a small cone, you need to jot that down. This journal will become your food bible over the span of a few short days.

Things you need to write down in this journal should include time of your meal, what you ate, how much you ate, where you ate, and what you had to drink as well. Yes, having a beer after a long day in the office needs to make it into the journal.

Figure out your metabolism

That food journal you are keeping is all part of a bigger plan. Figuring out your metabolism will rely heavily on that food journal. You want to know how your metabolism runs to help you on the way to weight loss success.

Figuring out your metabolism is not something you will do over night. There is no magical formula to make this easy. What this step takes is a lot of self-evaluation.

At the start of your weight loss life, figure out what your basal metabolic rate is. You burn the fewest calories if you did no physical activity at this rate. This is your baseline calorie consumption that you need to not exceed in your food intake.

Consume wet foods to feel fuller

Wet foods are those foods that come packed with natural water. Celery, watermelon, and cantaloupe are all examples of a wet food. Here is how wet foods can help you feel full while pushing those weight loss happy moments.

Eating something like celery is chock full of water. The natural water in a stick of celery will help make you feel fuller. This in turn means you eat less. Grab some grapes as a good healthy snack. These help kick a sweet tooth to the abyss of failure while filling you up with sweet juicy goodness.

Don’t starve yourself

The biggest no-no in any weight loss plan is starvation. Eating less than your body is telling you it needs will send your body into starvation mode. This mode will have your body storing calories as fat to make it through those long periods of starvation.

Eating proper portions, healthy foods, and drinking lots of water all help in keeping your body running and burning calories. Why hinder those weight loss ideals by starving that poor body of yours?

Weight loss does not have to mean starvation and boring foods. Learn about yourself before you start down this lifestyle path. Doing this can mean all the difference in successful weight loss goals or pitching those goal to the Twinkie monster.

Real life can make weight loss a tough thing to achieve. You end your day with stress from work, demands from the household, and you haven’t even figured out what to make for supper. Here are a few meal ideas that are easy, quick, and won’t destroy your weight loss goals.

Leftovers taste even better on day two

Some weird stigma comes with leftovers. Kids don’t like the idea of eating food over. Adults shun at the idea of eating yesterday’s meal again. How do you break this ho-hum attitude?

Have you ever noticed how some foods actually taste better the second day around? All the seasonings have had time to soak into the food. This is particularly noticeable in pasta. Use this to your weight loss advantage. Remind everyone that the veggie lasagna from the other night is going to be even tastier thanks to the seasoning having time to set into for taste bud overload goodness.

Leftovers don’t necessarily have to be from a meal you made, and ate, the night before. If you have a day that you can crank out a few meals, this is the perfect time to get the weeks meals all made. These precooked meals are healthier than their boxed counterparts are. Plus they save you a heap of time during the week.

Rice with veggies is an easy way to fill up

Rice is one food that can easily fill you up. It is also cheap, easy to make, and well worth your weight loss time to cook up. How do you take that rice and make it into a meal worth of your yelling belly?

Try cooking up some veggies. Any veggies will do here. The best idea is to make the veggie concoction colorful. Take these eye-pleasing colors and stack them on top of your rice. Mix them in if you prefer. Rice is versatile in what it will allow you to do and how you present you cooking masterpiece.

Rice doesn’t have to be so plain either. Your weight loss taste buds need some flavoring. Try to add seasonings to your rice while it is cooking. This is a cheap and easy way to turn rice into a gourmet weight loss meal.

Salads are more than just rabbit food

Salads are on the quick and easy list because they take almost no time to prepare. Salads also top the list for weight loss approved foods. All one needs to do is have a nice bed of leafy greens and your done.

Of course, salads can be so much more. Cutting up raw veggies will add a good bang for your buck. Everything from peppers to beats can go into this weight loss gold mine of flavors. Add in fruit for a bit of sweetness. Raw nuts round out the list for a good overall meal.

You’ll notice there was no salad dressing, cheese, or croutons mentioned here. While there are some healthy versions of these, they all add on calories and fat you don’t need. Enjoy some raw food straight from the garden occasionally.

Being stressed out from everyday life does not need to be compounded by figuring out what to eat. Easy and quick meals can be nutritious and keep you on the path to weight loss success. You now have the power to avoid a quick fix burger, fries, and milkshake.

Weight loss can be a hard lifestyle change when you have no support. The best support network you can form is with your partner. Just as a work team tackles large goals for the company, a weight loss partnership can pave the way to success in your personal life. Here are a few weight loss tips geared for couples:

Getting your partner involved is the hardest start

Getting your partner involved in the weight loss goals can be a big benefit to your success. You have a support network right there with you. This allows you two to push one another to strive for success.

A few things can cause this partnership to fall apart at the seams. For example, it’s bad form to compare weight loss amounts. Both people will lose weight at different rates. Comparing rate can cause a lack of motivation in one partner.

Work together

Time to push each other for weight loss success. Before you both set out on this journey, figure out each person’s strengths and weaknesses. Maybe one person is better at staying committed to exercising. The other partner might be best at making healthy meals. Playing to these strengths can go a long way to your weight loss success.

Working together should be something you focus on from the moment you get up to the time your head hits the pillow. Remind one another why it is that you are on this journey together. Push one another to strive for greatness. A team accomplishes more than a lone soldier does.

Planning shopping trips together

Shopping is a big part of a weight loss lifestyle. When you are looking at food to make for those late night cravings, you want to make sure the food that is bought will make everyone happy. You are already working hard at your day-to-day job. Why make mealtime harder by having to cook multiple meals?

Before you and your partner head to the store, sit down together and plan the meals for the week. Consensus on what meals are planned for the weak will make your time at the grocery store that much quicker.

All people involved in this weight loss activity should go to the store if they are able. This has two big benefits. First, it helps everyone avoid buying food that maybe detrimental to the end goals. Resisting chocolate chip cookie cereal is much easier with some support.

Second, it cuts the shopping time down. There is less temptation if the grocery-shopping trip is mere minutes. You may even find more health food like fruits and veggies end up in that shopping cart.

Support is the biggest key to success

No matter what you and your partner do, supporting one another on those weight loss goals. Changing a lifestyle is a big step. When your partner needs a bit of help, lend them all the support you can. They in turn should do the same.

Now all you have to do is get your partner on board with your weight loss goals. That is often the hardest hurdle to over come. Now you have the know how on getting your partner involved and staying with you for this lifestyle change.

When you think of weight loss you often automatically assume exercise. Yet, there are ways to achieve your weight loss goals without ever stepping foot in a stinky gym. Here are a few ways to help shed some pounds without cranking up the B.O.

Portion control is easier than saying no

Why deny yourself of the good things in life? Sometimes you just have to splurge on those weight loss goals and enjoy some fine sweets. This is not the time to treat that sweet table during Thanksgiving as the all you can eat buffet line.

The golden key to smaller portions is water and time. Try having a sip of water between each bite of food. This may seem like a lot of work, but you will fill up with more liquid than you will calorie blown food.

The second part is to slow down. Enjoy each bit of food. Chances are you are not in a race to see who can clean their plate first. Start up a good conversation over that meal. Your internals will fill up while you’re lost in that conversation.

Kick fats and sugars to the curb

Fats are a funny thing on any weight loss diet. There are good fats and bad fats. Good fats come from nature in the form of nuts. The bad fats are what you want to stay away from on your exerciseles days. Your weight loss will only be hampered if you eat that whole bag of greasy chips and don’t run a marathon afterwards.

Sugars are also a bad idea if you are not going to climb a mountain. Sugars turn into fat when they are not burned off. Instead of a heaping scoop of sugar with your coffee, try using honey. Better yet, just drink that coffee straight.

Flavor that water naturally

The world is full of chemical concoction drinks. Soda is just one of these bottled chemical concoctions. Instead of reaching for a can of sugar, try reaching for some water.

Water is boring you say. Here is a simple tip to get that water rocking with some flavor; all while helping you stay on that weight loss path. Get a pitcher and fill it ¾ of the way with water. Next, cut up some fruit of your choice. Add the fruit to the water and let it sit over night. You now have naturally fruity flavored water.

Save the alcohol for a special night

A cold beer on a hot day might just hits the spot on a Friday night. This is well and fine, but having a beer, every night will put a serious damper on that weight loss progress. This is only compounded if you did not exercise. Save those empty calories for a special night, and then use your skills in portion control to limit how much you drink.

Exercise is still a very important part to any weight loss lifestyle. Sometimes there just is not enough time to run forty miles. These tips will help you meet those weight loss goals in these busy times.

The weight loss industry is an ever-growing industry. Every year new extreme diets, miracle pills, and surgeries come out in hopes to snag your money. Your weight loss goals should never consider surgery though. Here are a few reasons why surgery is a bad idea.

Complications

A big issue from any surgery is the complications. Complications don’t hide just because this might be a cosmetic surgery either. Weight loss surgeries are tricky affairs that come with their own special set of complications.

There are numbers that show nearly twenty percent of people who go under the knife for a stomach surgery come back within six months due to complications. Let’s not forget all the horror stories of people who have had syringes left inside their bodies due to a doctor’s mishap.

Restrictive Diet

Many surgeries will put you on a restrictive diet afterwards. It does not matter if you had liposuction or gastric bypass. Once the surgery is completed in the name of your weight loss, you will be forever tied to specialized diets.

These diets are often in place to make the surgery successful. Procedures like a gastric bypass come with dietary restrictions due to a drastic change in your digestive system. Ask anyone who has had this procedure what happens when they eat food not on that post surgical weight loss diet plan.

Keep in mind that cosmetic procedures are only quick fixes. To keep that weight off, diets must be followed. If these diets are not followed, the patient will end up right back on the operating table. That is just more money out of your pocket and in the doctors.

Failure rates

The biggest issue with any weight loss surgery is how often they fail. Weight loss is a long-term ordeal. Numerous studies show patients often tack on the weight they lost after surgery. Some people add on more weight than they began with.

Let’s take the gastric bypass example. This procedure is where the stomach is reduced to as little as twenty percent of its normal size. This should mean less room to cram full of Twinkies and Oreos.

What ends up happening is patients just stretch out their newly reduced stomachs. Patients will enjoy a large amount of weight loss up front, but then they get lax and start consuming more food. This leads to stretched out stomachs and thinner stomach walls. All this while the weight slowly comes back with a vengeance.

There just might not be an option

For some people surgery is the only option they have left. When this happens there are a few things you can do to make sure you are not back on the operating table again. The most import is to follow what the doctor tells you. If you are not allowed to eat gobs of sugar, don’t do it. That super extra large ice cream cone may look tempting, but remind yourself of that operating room table and the hospital food that followed.

Weight loss is a tough life style change. Choosing any surgical procedure should be left as a last ditch effort in only the most extreme cases. Keep in mind that anything worth achieving will take time and dedication.

Weight loss diet fads are a dime a dozen these days. Most of these diet fads do nothing in helping you along your weight loss path. A few fads really do work though. Here are five fads that are tested to work well.

Weight loss diet fads are a dime a dozen these days. Most of these diet fads do nothing in helping you along your weight loss path. A few fads really do work though. Here are five fads that are tested to work well.

1. Finding an exercise activity you really do like

You don’t like spending money on a gym membership and being tied to one place. This is understandable. Exercising is still very important to your weight loss lifestyle. Maybe it is time to sit down and find a physical hobby you really enjoy.

It might be easier to convince yourself to hike a mountain than sit on a stationary bike. The key is to find something that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy it, chances are you won’t find some excuse why you cannot do it.

2. Eating when you’re hungry

Every person is different when it comes to eating. Some people eat three meals a day and are just fine. Other people like to eat seven times a day. The goal here is to eat when your body is telling you it needs more go juice.

This tip comes with some caution though. Eat portions that are relevant to how often you are eating. Those who eat three times a day may consume larger meals than those munching seven times. Portion control is the key to successful weight loss eating.

3. Find like-minded people to hang out with

Statistics the world over shows that hanging out with like-minded people is key to your weight loss success. This group of people will become your support network. You might even find an exercise partner in this group. Find a good group of people who share your weight loss desires and watch how much easier it is to stay the course.

4. Cooking at home is not so hard

There is an ancient tradition that people used to partake in almost every day. This tradition is eating at home. Crazy as it may sound, eating at home can be a huge help to your weight loss goals. You buy good healthy food, you cook that food, and you enjoy that food. Stay away from the bag of chips though.

5. Weight loss the slow way

Shedding pounds is not something that happens rapidly or quickly. People often start a weight loss lifestyle and see big numbers when they start out. Then, when the numbers slow down, people get discouraged.

Dropping weight is something that will be a long slow process. The average healthy weight loss per week is only a pound or two. Don’t start down this path expecting ten pounds to drop every week. This is just not healthy

Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat as well. Those who start lifting weights or partaking in any muscle building exercise might actually see some weight gain. Take body measurements as this will more accurately tell you how well your weight loss goals are going.

These diet fads work best for your weight loss goals when you combine two or more of them together. Living a healthy life is a life change that doesn’t just happen over night. Start with one fad and work your way up.
