Summer Week 3: If At First You Don’t Succeed…

My third week started off great, got a little bumpy in the middle and ended on a high note. In the beginning of the week, I helped to celebrate my best friend’s birthday, which wasn’t that great diet wise, but so much fun and was a special occasion so I didn’t feel too guilty about my choices. I’ve learned you still have to live life amongst all this getting healthy business, and as long as you pick yourself up immediately following a fall, you will inevitably succeed.

We went out for sushi, which I definitely indulged in, not to mention an embarrassing amount of sake bombs, followed by a few drinks out at another place. It was all bad, I know, but it was a celebration! Unfortunately, the next day, I did not feel very well. Not because of the over indulgence, but because I got a head cold, which knocked me out for two days. I blame my co-worker who came back from vacation with a vicious cold, and since then it has spread around the entire office like a wildfire. Being sick the tail end of last week in addition to my car situation still not being solved, has made for dismal weight loss progress in my third week, but I am happy to report that I’ve lost 2 pounds! It’s been over two weeks, but I’m down to 224, which I am shocked about to say the least.

Stretch it Out

I was able to get to the gym on Monday after a two week hiatus and was dreading weighing myself. Fortunately, there was good news awaiting and I worked out harder than I have in a while after my scale reading. I walked/jogged on the treadmill at a pace of 3.2 and an incline of 6 for 32 minutes followed by the stationary bike at level 10 and ended my workout with 10 minutes of stretching that I desperately needed. Stretching is probably my favorite part of every workout just because it releases so much tension in your body and allows you to slow down and breath post-workout. I also attribute my never getting any injuries to my obsessive amount of stretching.

In addition to the gym, I did a lot of dancing this week. Not in any class, but informally out and about with friends and family. It made me realize that I need to definitely get back on the dancing bandwagon. In the past, I was always taking dance classes — from world dance and jazz to hip hop and salsa — and I miss it so much. My only issue is that classes are so expensive, and I really don’t want to shell out over $100 bucks a month to do what I love, so I decided I’m going to look into other alternatives. I’ve already discovered a hip-hop class and a Zumba class at my gym that I want to try, but I really want to find a affordable jazz dance class. That will be one of my overall goals.

It’s definitely been a bumpy start to this journey, but I’m still determined to get through it. I’m doing my best to stay positive and not crawl into a hole and seclude myself and fall off the wagon like I’ve done in the past. Although I’ve experienced a slow start to this, I really feel as though I’m going to start picking up momentum in the coming week.

Here’s to dusting myself off and trying again!
