Summer Week 5: Moving in the Right Direction

After a rough couple of weeks, I’m finally getting back on track. I’m down two pounds this week! As I begin to ease back into the swing of things, continuing where I left off before all of my life drama happened is becoming easier.

I didn’t make it to the gym this week, but I was still able to fit in some exercise. I got off the bus three stops earlier on my way home last week for two days, which added an additional 30 minutes to my routine for a total of about an hour each day of exercise for those two days. Over the weekend, my friend and I went to Venice Beach and rented some bikes to ride. Riding bikes is one of my favorite outdoor activities. It doesn’t even seem like exercise to me, so I can do it for long periods of time without feeling like I’m doing any work at all. The thing I was really excited about this week is that I finally took advantage of my apartment swimming pool. I’ve lived in my building for over two years and have never swam in the pool, which is surprising to everyone I know because I love the water so much. I figured what better time than Labor Day weekend to test it out. I did laps in the pool for about 30 minutes which exhausted me! I forgot how great of a workout swimming is. I’m probably going to be sore, but it was nice. I think I want to start incorporating swimming into my workout routine. It’s low impact, fun and gets my heartbeat up!

Although I’ve lost two pounds this week, I haven’t been monitoring my food intake like I should. For over a year, I’ve kept a food journal and have written down everything I’ve eaten, but I haven’t done so in about a month. I’ve realized that writing in my food journal has kept my eating in check and without it, I’m more likely to eat without thinking about what I’m putting in my mouth. Starting this week, I’m going to begin writing down what I eat again. It was so helpful before and kept me from overeating.

Goals for the Week

Fitness: Continue my goal of exercising four times a week.

Food: I haven’t been diligent in staying away from junk food, so this week I want to try and avoid going out to eat completely and cook all of my meals.

This past week I also created a plan for the month of September that I’m calling my “Life Revitalization Plan.” Basically, it’s a plan to get my life back on track after the events of the summer. I feel like September is going to be a month of positive change for me, so I mapped out my health and fitness goals, as well as my personal life goals. I’m excited to be moving in the right direction again after a taking so many steps back because of my life circumstances. I intend to continue this trend of losing weight again. Ideally, I’d like to get below 220 pounds this month, so I’m going to do my best to make it happen.

Cheers to a good week of health and moving closer to my goals!
